Katlyn Thomas, an attorney who specializes in international law and who was the official in charge of legal affairs for MINURSO will discuss principles of international law as it relates to the right to self determination of the people of Western Sahara in theory and how these principles have been applied in practice by the United Nations and the major powers. She will also offer suggestions for a way forward.
Katlyn Thomas is an attorney, licensed to practice in New York, California, and Paris, France. She is a former Director of Legal Affairs, UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO). She is also a former Chair, Middle East Committee of the American Bar Association and a former Chair, UN Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. She is a former Senior Fellow, Lauterpacht Center for International Law, Cambridge University, England.
